Education Overview: Introduction to Lean Construction and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD)
Presented by: Kevin Rafuse, CHC Project Executive, P. Agnes, Inc.
Learning Objectives:
  • Explain the core principles of Lean Construction and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and how they differ from traditional project delivery methods.


  • Identify the key components of IPD – including early stakeholder involvement, shared risk/reward, and collaborative decision-making, and their impact on project performance.


  • Recognize common sources of waste and inefficiency in construction project and describe how Lean tools can be used to address them.


  • Apply fundamental Lean practices (such as pull planning, reliable commitments, and continuous improvement) to improve workflow, predictability, and team alignment.


  • Evaluate the benefits and challenges of implementing IPD and Lean Construction, including cultural, contractual, and organizational considerations.


  • Describe practical strategies for integrating Lean and IPD into real-world projects to improve cost, schedule, quality, and safety outcomes.


  • Develop and initial action plan for applying at least on Lean or IPD concept within their own organization or project environment.

Speaker Bio

Kevin S. Rafuse is a Project Executive with P. Agnes, Inc., specializing in Construction Management and Lean Construction Methodology.  His work focuses on improving project delivery, team collaboration, and operational efficiency across complex construction environments.
Kevin earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Ursinus College, and his Masters degree from Louisiana State University.  He also has earned his CHC with ASHE.
Kevin serves the construction industry by helping teams adopt more integrated, value-driven approaches to building.  He is particularly passionate about applying Lean principles and IPD (Integrated Project Delivery) to reduce waste, strengthen alignment, and deliver better outcomes for all project stakeholders.
In his spare time, Kevin enjoys spending time with his family, travelling, and fishing.
